問專業人士，覺得自己的英文哪裡有問題，超過70%都覺得自己英文「不夠精準」。什麼叫做精準或不精準呢？重點在你講的和對方想的，有沒有一致。基礎字彙像go、say、good、very這類的字，是造成不精準的元凶，因為這些字是一種籠統的行動或概念，來看這一句：
（不精準）
I will go to the store.（我會去那商店。）
這句話其實就不太準，到底要怎麼去，需要更明確的表示。改一下：
（精準）
I will drive to the store.（我開車去那商店。）
I will walk to the store.（我走路去那商店。）
Drive/walk這兩個字比go更有細節，一起來看怎麼把模糊的字眼調得更精準：
1. 到底怎麼說，除了用Say，你也要懂怎麼用insist、elaborate、indicate
你全部只用say、tell、talk一般性的字來表達「說」，別人不知道你到底是很堅持地主張？很詳細地解說？還是指出一個方向。
She said that John should make the presentation.
She insisted john should make the presentation.（堅持）
Could you talk more about this plan?
Could you elaborate on this plan?（詳細說明）
With a nod of his head he told me where I should sit.
With a nod of his head he indicated to me where I should sit.（指出）
2. good到底是怎麼「好」法，太模糊了
不要只是說「好」，但到底是怎麼樣的好，是有建設性constructive，還是評價最高top-ranked，或是史前無例的好unprecedented？
He put forward a good suggestion.
He put forward a constructive suggestion.（有建設性）
She attended a good business school in France.
She attended a top-ranked business school in France.（評價最高）
The rate of growth was good. 這個成長率是前所未有的。
The rate of growth was unprecedented.（前所未有）
3. "very"是個太概括性的詞彙，用多了不僅僅不準，還有誇張之嫌，避免用那麼多very，以下這些字請記住了：
