【 Follow ≠ 跟進 】這個最常被用錯的「職場萬用字」，你也中招了嗎？

你是不是也常說這些話？
（X）「I will follow him tomorrow.」
（X）「Let me follow this email.」
（X）「Did you follow the case?」

我們以為是在表達「我來處理／我來追一下」，但外國同事聽了卻可能感到迷惑，甚至誤會你要「跟蹤」誰，或是完全聽不懂你想表達什麼。
Follow，這個字雖然簡單，但一不小心就會「中式英文」爆棚。

誤區 1：Follow 不是「跟進處理」
（X）I will follow this tomorrow.
問題：英文裡 follow 是「跟著某人／某事走」的意思，不代表「主動處理、追蹤進度」。
正確說法：

• I’ll follow up on this tomorrow. 我明天會跟進處理。

• I’ll look into it and keep you posted. 我會處理看看，有消息會再跟你說。

誤區 2：Follow 不是「提醒對方處理」
（X）Just following this.
問題：如果少了 up 和明確對象，對方會聽不出你想幹嘛。
正確說法：

• Just following up to check if you’ve had a chance to review this. 想跟你確認一下，你有機會看過這份資料了嗎？

• A quick follow-up on the proposal we sent. 簡單跟你確認一下我們寄出的提案。

誤區 3：Follow someone 聽起來像在「跟蹤」
（X）I followed the manager after the meeting.
問題：這句會被解讀成「我跟著經理走出會議室」，而不是你想說的「我有追進度／跟經理對話」。
正確說法：

• I followed up with the manager after the meeting. 會後我有再和經理溝通一下。

• I checked in with her afterwards. 之後我有再和她聊了一下／確認一下。

誤區 4：Follow 不等於「負責某件事」
（X）He is following this project.
問題：外國同事會想：「那他是在旁邊觀察，還是實際負責？」語意不清。
正確說法：

• He’s in charge of the project.

• He’s handling this project personally.

結語：少一個 up，差一大截
很多科技人、工程師、PM 每天都在「follow這、follow那」，但英文裡的 follow ≠ 跟進、負責、追進度。
學英文不能只靠習慣翻譯，而要真正掌握「外國人怎麼說」，說得專業，才不會被誤會、失禮或聽起來像菜鳥。

「躺」是用lay還是lie?

lie和lay是常容易混淆的單字，以下句子你知道怎麼用嗎?

1. The boy said that he was laying on the bed.男孩說他當時正躺在床上。

2.My mother was tired, so she lied down for a rest. 我媽媽累了，所以躺下來休息。

3.Please lie the suitcase on the sofa. 請把手提箱放在沙發上。
