戒掉中式英文用法

在英文句子裡，動詞扮演重要的角色。選對動詞，不只意思對一半，也會讓你聽起來更接近母語者。因此在選擇動詞時，要特別小心使用直譯，否則可能會不自覺地說出不自然的「中式英文」，以下英語學習者最常犯的錯，你能抓出幾個？

   在進入大樓之前，我們都被量過體溫。
   
   
2. Could you bring me to the train station?
   你可以帶我去火車站嗎？

   你有依照醫生的指示吃藥嗎？

Debug Answer

1. Our temperature is taken before entering the building.
   量體溫的搭配動詞要用take，measure是指丈量、衡量：measure the depth of water或是measure the damage。量體溫另一種說法是check one’s temperature，也可用名詞 temperature check來表達: The company starts temperature check on every employee.
   
   
2. Could you take me to the train station?
   Take跟bring中文雖然都有「帶」的意思，差別在於方向性：take是將某人/事帶去某處；bring 是將某人/事帶來某處，這裡是將我帶去火車站，所以適合用take而不是bring。
   
   
3. May I use the bathroom?
   在英文裡，borrow用來指借物品，最終會歸還：I borrowed a book from you. I will return it back once I finished it. 但本句的借，不是真的拿廁所來借，而是詢問能不能「使用」，所以用use比較合適。
   
   
4. Would you like to have dinner with me tonight?
   eat dinner 跟have dinner 都是吃晚餐的意思，但eat dinner強調將食物吃進去的動作，have dinner則是指進行晚餐這個活動，若要邀請別人共進晚餐，用have dinner比較符合語意。
   
   
5. Have you been taking your medicine accordingly to the doctor?
   中文雖然會說吃藥，但其實這裡吃更貼切的說法是「服用」，並不是像在吃食物一樣有咀嚼或享受味道的過程，而是將藥物帶進身體，所以不能用eat要用take。另外，吃藥不能說成take drugs，take drugs是指吸毒的意思。
