事情「發生」還是「被發生」？被動語態最容易犯的錯

一般的句子會有負責執行動作的主詞，但萬一碰到主詞不明確、或主詞無法執行動作時，就必須考慮使用被態語態。請利用以下五道題目小試身手：

1. It is expecting that the strike will begin in two days.

預計罷工將在兩天後開始。

2. The election outcome will announce on Wednesday.

選舉結果將在星期三揭曉。

3. John says that the punishment is too harsh since other boys who made similar mistakes in

the past are only ground. 約翰說這次的處罰太重了，因為過去犯類似錯誤的男孩們都只被禁足。

4. A hypothesis needs to go through a lot of research and experimentation which was labelled

a theory. 假說需要通過很多研究和實驗才能被視作理論。

5. A funny thing was happened yesterday.

昨天發生了一件好笑的事。

Debug Answer

1. It is expected that the strike will begin in two days.
   預期罷工的人是誰並不明確，所以本題採用被動語態，避開須說明主詞是誰的情況。類似的句型還有It is said that…（據說）、It is reported that…（據報導）、It is believed that…（一般相信）等等。
   
   
2. The election outcome will be announced on Wednesday.
   本句中的主詞是the election outcome，而「選舉結果」本身無法進行動作，只能「被揭曉」，因此畫線處須改成被動式。
   
   
3. John says that the punishment is too harsh since other boys who made similar mistakes in the past were only grounded.
   ground當及物動詞時有「使擱淺」之意，由此引申為「禁足」。由於since後面帶出的子句是過去發生的事，且男孩們是「被禁足」，故畫線處應改為過去被動式。
   
   
4. A hypothesis needs a lot of research and experimentation to be labeled a theory.
   從中文可知，假說通過許多研究和實驗，是「為了被貼上」理論這個標籤，因此須使用不定詞（to＋原形動詞）來表示「為了」，並搭配「被貼上」的被動式。
   
   
5. A funny thing happened yesterday.
   唯有及物動詞才具有被動形式，happen（發生）是不及物動詞，所以只能用主動語態。附帶一提，另一個表示「發生」的動詞片語take place也只能用主動式，例：The car accident took place on this street.（車禍發生在這條街上。）
