近來網路粉絲小說fanfiction有個字突然火紅了，這個字叫做"ship"。你一定覺得奇怪，ship不就是「大船」或者「出貨」嗎，有什麼流行本事？這個字跟船沒有關係，而是從relationship當中的ship來的，可以解為「希望誰和誰成為一對」或「送作堆」，例如：
I am totally shipping Jack and Rose. 我真希望傑克和蘿絲在一起。
Ship這個「粉絲語言」在fanfiction竄紅不難想像，社群媒體時代的內容是觀眾和作者共同創作，粉絲的意見經常是劇情發展的推手。2014年牛津字典正式收納ship這個用法，解釋為：
"Support or have a particular interest in a romantic pairing between two characters in a fictional series, often when this relationship is one portrayed by fans rather than depicted in the series itself."（支持小說中某兩個角色成為一對，而作者原意可能不是這樣。）
Ship這個字有趣，在中文裡的船原來也有類似的延伸空間。中文也有同船共渡的說法。在英文裡，還常用ship表示一個企業、機會或所處的現況。來看看這個字道地的商業用法。

1. a sinking ship
你以為：一艘正在沉沒的船
其實是：正在走下坡的公司
This company is a sinking ship and they can not hire any new employees.
這家公司正在下坡中，請不起新員工。
2. jump ship
你以為：跳船
其實是：跳槽
I am thinking of jumping ship since our company is already a sinking ship.
因為我們公司營運不佳，我打算跳槽。
3. run a tight ship
你以為：跑船
其實是：管理的紀律嚴明
The new CEO runs a tight ship, so he can save the company from falling apart.
公司新的CEO實行嚴格紀律，所以他有本事拯救公司瓦解的危機。
4. steady the ship
你以為：船很穩
其實是：管理良好、穩定
Our company requires an excellent leader to steady the ship.
我們公司需要位傑出的主管來掌舵。
Chance-表示機會
5. ship has sailed
你以為：船已起航
其實是：錯過良機
You’d better jump at the chance before that ship has sailed.
你最好在錯失良機前把握住。
Change current situation-船代表當下現況
6. rock the boat
你以為：搖滾遊輪
其實是：擾亂現況
Don’t rock the boat before the negotiation is finished.
在商議結束前，千萬不要擾亂現況。
7. in the same boat
你以為：真的在同一艘船上
其實是：立場相同、處境相同
We are all in the same boat.
